“HappyHands” has been supported by the Görlitz Sign Choir under the direction of qual. Sign language teacher Nicole Friedrich in Görlitz. The lecturer “HappyHands” is affected, lives bilingual herself (loud and sign language). The choir transmits well-known songs from the charts, but also lesser-known songs that are played by a band, in sign language. The texts of songs are made accessible to deaf people, attention is drawn to the sign language and the otherness of the individuals in the choir is a small step towards accessibility. The project relates to the area of “education and upbringing” and its sustainability corresponds to the social and pedagogical guidelines, the public values and norms of tolerance, acceptance and the variety of communication of different generations in our society. In addition, learning and mastering German sign language is an opportunity for hearing people to improve their own expressiveness, memory and coordination by becoming aware of movement sequences. Learning sign language through music or creativity means learning with all your senses: the whole body is in action, it also serves to develop creativity and design in connection with sign language for yourself and in public relations for other people and as a side effect you have a lot of fun too. The performances are a great way to raise awareness of the deaf and their beautiful language and to show how sign language can be used as an artistic means of expression. A major component is the imparting of the “deaf culture” to promote tolerance towards people with a handicap, regardless of their origin, and to improve the contacts of parents seeking help whose children have limited health. The sustainability of the project aims to win over interested parties of all ages, regardless of ethnic, social and religious origin, to learn sign language. The performances are a great way to raise awareness of the deaf and their beautiful language, and to show how sign language can be used as an artistic means of expression.
